- Print jobs stuck in queue and cannot be cancelled
- Queue shows 'Deleting' but job never clears
- Cannot send new print jobs while old jobs are stuck
- Printer offline error caused by a stuck job in the queue
- Print Spooler service keeps stopping or crashing
Common Causes
- A corrupted print job in the queue is blocking all subsequent jobs
- Print Spooler service has stopped — the service that manages all print jobs in Windows
- A previous printer driver installation left orphaned jobs that cannot clear
- The spooler's temporary files are corrupted and need to be cleared
- Print queue permission issue preventing job deletion for the current user
What to Check First
- Open your print queue by right-clicking your printer in Devices and Printers and selecting 'See what is printing'. Try right-clicking each job and selecting Cancel.
- If jobs will not cancel, the Print Spooler service needs to be stopped before jobs can be deleted. This requires administrator access.
- Do not force-close or end the spooler process repeatedly — this can cause additional corruption. Instead, stop the service properly, clear the spool files, and then restart the service.
- Check the spooler folder (C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS) for files that need to be cleared when the spooler is stopped.
- After clearing the queue, verify your printer driver and port settings are correct before sending new print jobs.
